Hello World!
I’m Maggie, the creative force behind Folkesdotter Design
(Usually found with coffee cup in hand, or at least nearby.)
Forget corporate jargon; behind Folkesdotter Design it’s just me – a woman over 50 navigating some health challenges – and I’d much rather keep things in my own voice — personal, genuine, and a little informal. I’m starting out on this journey, creating digital designs, with the goal of making it a part-time job to complement my genealogical research assignments.
I’ve always loved using my hands crafting—combining materials, shapes, colours, patterns, and textures. While my hands now may need a pause, my imagination is as active as ever. So, I’m now brushing up on old skills and channeling that passion into creating unique digital designs with a focus on retro, vintage, and feel-good patterns, sometimes with nostalgic vibes, other times just whatever sparks joy.
My goal is to offer my print-on-demand products across multiple marketplaces in the future and Folkesdotter.se is where I’ll gather all designs/creations in one place. I’m drawn to print-on-demand because it means less waste and not adding to landfills with unsold seasonal stock — something that matters to me.
Personally, I’m not particularly swayed by fast-changing trends. I’m old enough to know what I like, regardless of which colors are “in” or what style is currently considered cool (does anyone even say cool anymore?). This reasoning also gives me less stress, more joy and freedom to design what feels right because a personal style is timeless.
My ‘Dear Diary’ section will document my journey, a personal look at building a creative business. Perhaps a place to be sharing thoughts, insights, lessons learned while also having something to reflect back on in a year or so. Sometimes, looking back actually makes it easier to plan ahead.
Who knows, my journey might even inspire someone else to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles. Take inventory of your strengths and see what can be done. Don’t be afraid it will not work out. Remember, if you never try, you’ll never know what you can accomplish. Dare to dream a little…
